Get more traffic with StumbleUpon

I my opinion, social media sites tend to be severely overhyped. Facebook, MySpace, etc tends to be frequented by horribly invaluable traffic. There are a few exceptions to this, and StumbleUpon is a big one.

There are a couple of ways to get additional StumbleUpon traffic to your site. First, head over to StumbleUpon and register for an account. Then install their free toolbar for your favorite browser. Navigate to your site and rate your site to get it included in their rotation. Doing this will get you users to your site, but not a whole lot. The more stumbles your page has, the more often it will be shown when people are browsing.

To increase the number of stumbles your page receives, add stumble buttons to your site. If you use Mambo or Joomla, this is easily done using a StumbleUpon module. The next step in increasing the number of stumbles you receive is to join Stumblexchange. You rate other people’s site and in return they rate yours. This can be a great way to increase the number of stumbles you’ll receive.

StumbleUpon traffic seems to be more sticky than most social media traffic, so it’s traffic you don’t want to miss out on. And on the flip side, you can stumble on to other sites you just might like.
